In today's episode, Lindsey is talking with sustainability expert, Ashlee Piper, about the intersectionality of eco-friendliness and financial self-care.
The conversation starts with Ashlee explaining the when consumerism really started, during post-war industrialization. Then moves from how marketing uses psychology to influence purchasing. And finally, ends with how the #NoNewThings Challenge can transform your relationship with money (and, of course, stuff).
Ashlee Piper is a sustainability expert, commentator, and speaker whose work has been featured on more than three hundred TV segments, including the Today show, Good Morning America, and CNN, and in Vogue, the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Atlantic, and Newsweek. Piper’s 2018 book, Give a Sh*t: Do Good. Live Better. Save the Planet., has been hailed as a “sustainability bible” by celebrities and reviewers. Piper has spoken at the United Nations and SXSW and has a popular TED talk. She is also the creator of the #NoNewThings Challenge, for which she received a 2022 Silver Stevie Award for Female Innovator of the Year, and a professor of sustainability marketing. She holds a BA from Brown University and a master’s degree from the University of Oxford. She lives in Chicago in a home that’s 98 percent secondhand and can often be found singing Seal’s “Kiss from a Rose” at any not-so-fine karaoke establishment.

Have you ever heard of ADHD Tax? It's the thing you pay for having a neurodivergent brain that often makes you miss return windows, wait until the last minute to book something forcing you to pay a premium, or buying the same thing multiple times because you forgot that you already bought the thing!
ADHD Tax is real and it massively impacts your financial self-care. With so many women being diagnosed later in life with ADHD, it's a topic financial therapist, Lindsey, wanted to talk through with Licensed Psychologist, Dr. Priyanka Rao.
Dr. Priyanka Rao—known to many as Pri—is a Licensed Psychologist, executive coach, and founder of both Asha Mental Health and Asha Coaching & Consulting. Through her therapy practice, she specializes in adult ADHD and autism assessments, providing neurodiversity-affirming evaluations that help clients better understand their brains and reclaim their stories. In her coaching work, Pri supports late-diagnosed ADHD professionals and entrepreneurs in navigating overwhelm, burnout, and the mental load of modern life. A late-diagnosed ADHDer herself, she brings both clinical expertise and lived experience to everything she does.
