In today's re-release episode, Lindsey is talking with sustainability expert, Ashlee Piper, about the intersectionality of eco-friendliness and financial self-care.
The conversation starts with Ashlee explaining the when consumerism really started, during post-war industrialization. Then moves from how marketing uses psychology to influence purchasing. And finally, ends with how the #NoNewThings Challenge can transform your relationship with money (and, of course, stuff).
Ashlee Piper is a sustainability expert, commentator, and speaker whose work has been featured on more than three hundred TV segments, including the Today show, Good Morning America, and CNN, and in Vogue, the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Atlantic, and Newsweek. Piper’s 2018 book, Give a Sh*t: Do Good. Live Better. Save the Planet., has been hailed as a “sustainability bible” by celebrities and reviewers. Piper has spoken at the United Nations and SXSW and has a popular TED talk. She is also the creator of the #NoNewThings Challenge, for which she received a 2022 Silver Stevie Award for Female Innovator of the Year, and a professor of sustainability marketing. She holds a BA from Brown University and a master’s degree from the University of Oxford. She lives in Chicago in a home that’s 98 percent secondhand and can often be found singing Seal’s “Kiss from a Rose” at any not-so-fine karaoke establishment.

In this episode of Financial Self-Care, Financial Therapist Lindsey sits down with Maggie Hilpisch to talk all things Human Design.
Human Design is a self-awareness system that combines astrology, the chakra system, the I Ching, and quantum physics to reveal your unique energetic blueprint. It helps you understand your type, strategy, and profile so you can make aligned decisions and live with more ease and authenticity. We explore what Human Design really is, how the different energy types and profiles work, and how understanding your unique blueprint can help you live a life that feels more aligned, authentic, and easeful.
Whether you’re brand new to Human Design or you’ve already deep-dove into your chart, this conversation will help you see how your design can support your relationships, work, money habits, and overall well-being.
This is a grounding, validating episode filled with reminders that you’re not meant to operate like everyone else — and that alignment is often the key to both emotional and financial self-care.
What You’ll Learn:
What Human Design is and why so many people find it transformative
The 5 Human Design energy types — and how each one is built to move through the world
How your Human Design profile shapes your strengths, communication, and purpose
How understanding your design can help you make decisions with more confidence and less burnout
Ways Human Design can support your money habits, career direction, and self-trust
How to use Human Design for more aligned living, emotional health, and financial self-care
Maggie Hilpisch is a human design strategist who helps people move beyond self-doubt and overthinking to create meaningful change in their lives. She blends human design and subconscious re-patterning to help clients learn to trust themselves again, make braver and more aligned choices in their lives, and expand their beliefs of what’s possible for them.
Since 2020, Maggie has helped hundreds of clients transform their relationships with themselves and others. Her approach bridges spiritual wisdom with real-world application, and clients describe working with Maggie as "life-changing" and like "coming home to themselves". Through their work together, her clients move through threshold moments both personally and professionally and experience deeper fulfillment and connections in their relationships, work, and life.

In this episode of Financial Self-Care, Lindsey sits down with Kayla Estenson Williams, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, to unpack the real costs of infertility — not just the financial side, but the emotional and energetic toll it takes on women and couples navigating fertility treatments like IUI (Intrauterine Insemination) and IVF (In Vitro Fertilization).
Kayla shares her personal experience of going through 4 rounds of IUI and one round of (successful!) IVF and discuss what it’s really like to go through these treatments — the money, time, and mental health challenges that often come with them — and how to approach this journey with compassion, boundaries, and financial mindfulness.
If you’ve ever wondered how to balance your emotional well-being and your bank account during fertility treatments, this episode offers validation, insight, and tangible tools for practicing financial self-care through it all.
What you'll learn:
The cost of IUI and IVF — and why the total price tag often surprises people
The hidden emotional and time costs of infertility treatments
How infertility can impact relationships, finances, and mental health
Why financial transparency and emotional support are both essential in the fertility process
How to practice financial self-care when facing medical uncertainty
Ways to cope with grief, hope, and burnout during a fertility journey
Kayla Estenson Williams is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who runs her private practice, Minnesota Attachment Collective. She specializes in healing attachment wounds through the tender seasons of growing your family- including fertility challenges, pregnancy, postpartum, and parenthood. As your resident financial therapist, I will be the first to tell you that getting out of debt and personal finance, in general, is messy. It's not linear. It's not always pretty. And unfortunately, most people are not comfortable talking about it... until today.
Megs Crawford, CEO of Organizing an ADHD Brain, is here on Financial Self-Care to share her story of being in the messy middle while she and her partner work to get out of debt. 9 months ago, Megs was in $60,000 of high-interest consumer debt. Today, she's decreased that number to $11,000!
Megs shares her story was vulnerability and poise, while admitting that this journey has felt long and uncomfortable, yet incredibly fulfilling and prideful.
Megs Crawford is a professional organizer and ADHD coach, podcast host, and fellow ADHD brain learning her way through the “messy middle.” Through her podcast, Organizing an ADHD Brain, coaching, membership, and resources, she helps people with ADHD shift out of self-doubt and into small, doable steps that actually stick. Megs believes organizing isn’t about perfection, it’s about building trust with yourself, one decision at a time.
